Complexity Modeling

Risk assessment is a common practice within organizations, however specific issues (such as Black Swan events) are seldom modeled due to their complexity, both in the causes and in the potential consequences. kwantis has the expertise and the experiences to model complex events in order to evaluate their probability and their consequences through advanced models and techniques.

CHALLENGES

  • Lack of capability to evaluate a specific or intricate risk or decisional issue.
  • Need of integration to the pollution prevention and control plans.
  • Need to comply with Directive 2013/30/UE for offshore drilling.
  • Comparison of different alternatives from a safety point of view.
  • Reduce risk premium (e.g. blowout insurance, TBM insurance).

KWANTIS KEY ASSETS

  • Large experience of different probabilistic tools (Primavera Risk, @Risk, Crystal Ball...).
  • More than 50 quantitative risk assessments performed on 4 continents on projects from few MUSD to more than 15 BUSD.
  • Capability to use the most appropriated technique to address each critical risk issue (Montecarlo simulation, bow tie, cause effect diagram ,fault tree, event tree, decision tree...).
  • Design of the software used by Eni and certified by DNV GL to evaluate blowout probability.
  • Capability to process large amount of data to support model assumptions.

TYPICAL INTERVENTIONS

  • Blowout probability / impact evaluation.
  • HAZID / HAZOP.
  • FMECA.
  • Reliability analysis (fault tree).
  • Event tree / decision tree.
  • Real Options modeling.
  • Rare event probability evaluation.
